A DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is fitted in the exhaust system and is a self-cleaning filter that removes particulates and soot from the exhaust gases. There are many parameters that have to be met for the DPF to regenerate successfully, it can take one component to go for it to not then be able to complete its regens, this then leads to issues with the DPF getting blocked, some other issues can cause it to regenerate more frequently than needed and cause oil dilution issues. So it’s important to find the underlying fault first before carrying out a DPF clean.

• We will carry out an assessment on your vehicle, using the tried and proven ‘The DPF Doctor’ assessment process.
• We will then tell you what’s required to get your car working again.
• Repairs are carried out, once authorised.
• DPF clean only when necessary – not every vehicle requires a clean!
• An extended road test while checking vital engine parameters.
• Free follow-up check to make sure everything is working correctly.

Helpful Tips for your DPF:

• Do not ignore any warning lights or running problems.
• If you are planning a long journey then adding a DPF additive to your fuel tank will help regenerations (although there are different varieties and you need to ensure you are using the correct type, as they are intended for different purposes and sometimes when used in the wrong way can cause more damage, you can always give us a call for advice on this).
• If your DPF light is illuminated (and you haven’t gone into limp mode and no extra EMLS are on) then go for a steady drive at around 60-70mph for over 20 minutes to allow it to go into regeneration.
• If the DPF light does not go out after a steady drive then give us a call.
• Keep your vehicle well-maintained and serviced.
• Check your engine oil regularly and contact us if the oil level is rising.
• Use premium quality fuel.
• Avoid running your vehicle low on fuel (keep level above 1/4 of a tank).
• Schedule a regular journey of over 20 miles at motorway speed (60-70mph).
